Week 21 “HAPPY” Review
“The Constitution only guarantees the American People the Right to Pursue Happiness.”
“You Have to Catch It Yourself”
Sunday February 21, 2016. I have just finished watching the movie Happy. I ask myself this: Why didn’t Mark include this in our movie list? Although it is based along the same lines of what we are being guided in I now see why it was excluded. Or is it? The movie takes us on a journey across the continent in pursuit of what makes people Happy. It doesn’t focus on one’s Hero Journey. However it does touch on many aspects of our teaching. Take this chart for example. How many of you knew that when we are born/created 50% of our Happiness is Genetic? 50%! What a great start in life! If we were running a race think of getting to start at the half way point. How could you possibly lose! Right? And yet so many of us do. The world without, Circumstances 10%, Intentional activities (yah that’s you) 40%. What does this mean? Look at it this way. Old Blueprint (10% & 40%) is 50%, are new blueprint(or our true self, Golden Budda) 50%. An even match. How do win? Skills! The Master Keys, Hero’s Journey!
The movie,co-produced by Tom Shadyac of I AM, takes us from the swamps of Louisianna to the slums of Kolkata in search of what makes people Happy. As it turns out it is very simple in deed.
I share with you a comment that Kelvin Ringed shared with me on one of my blogs. This was said to him by his coach.
“I notice that when you’re helping someone else, you always perform; you’re always there. Whenever you make it ‘bigger than yourself’ you follow through.”
And I bet you all when we do this we are Happy. Being a service to others makes us Happy Right? So back to the movie. Now some of the scenes I must admit for some of us, we would shutter and say “How terrible” or “Oh My God” but in reality, and I think this is where Mark is sending us with expanding our comfort zone. One story a person shares is about getting run over by a truck a friend of her’s was driving. The outcome as she puts it, made her more Happier and grateful. I’ll tell you this, she doesn’t look as bad as you may think considering it was her head that took the full force.
Yet other scenes like the slums of Kolkata make you think of third world poverty and how can someone be happy there? Well they are. Even the Dalai Lama shares his perspective in saying this. I Quote:
“The first act after birth is relying on mother and sucking milk. At that time you have no idea who is that person. The mother’s side also, tremendous sense of care, affection, compassion so the bond between mother and child is not by law. Not by religious teaching but by nature. Compassion from birth is in our blood, it is there, not only at beginning but of your whole life”
Doesn’t that have Master Keys written all over it? It is in us from the start! Love, compassion, to be of service to others and to be Happy!
The movie mentions that although Japan came together to rebuild after WW2, they are considered one of the unhappiest countries on earth. Yet Denmark is considered the Happiest country on earth. All I can say here is long as you don’t mind seeing an occasional unhappy scene, Watch the Movie! It is amazing!
One other thought to share that was mentioned in the movie is believe it or not is the Gratitude Cards. Yup! They mention that writing down five things you are grateful for each week will without a dout make you Happy. And her we have Mark and the team having us write three a day. Thats 21 a week! We should be so high on Happy by now we need to be tied to the planet.
